Air Filter Change Honda CRF300L

Air Filter Change Honda CRF300L

If you follow this guide you will be done with air filter change of your Honda CRF300L in less than 5 minutes. I have decided to install the air filter from Twin Air, which is an oiled foam filter and better suited for offroad riding. Down below you will find a link to the manufacturer’s website.

If you are more of a visual learner you can also follow the step by step video on Youtube.

In order to access the air filter of your Honda CRF300L you will need to remove the seat, then remove the body side panel on the right side, and finally open the air box.

Removing the Seat

Use a 6mm hex key and unscrew the cargo pins/screws in the back and on each side of your motorcycle.

After removing the pins/screws you will notice that there is a flanged spacer that actually “locks” the seat in place. Take them out as well.

At this point the seat is free but to remove it, you will have to lift its back and at the same time pull it towards the back.

Removing the Body Side Panel

With the seat out the next step is to remove the body panel only on the right side. This side panel is fixed by a screw and a plastic pin located under the seat.

Remove the screw of the body panel using a 5mm hex key.

While it may look that there are no further screws, do not pull the side panel off yet. On the right side of the motorcycle and underneath the seat there is a black plastic pin. To remove this pin you need to push right in the middle of it. Anything small enough will do. In my case I have used a 4mm hex key to push it in. You will hear a click once you push it in and after that you can pull it out with your fingers.

You can now wiggle the side panel of the motorcycle which will expose the air box cover.

Removing the Air Filter

The air box cover is secured in its place via 5 phillips head screw. Take them off and you will finally be able to see the air filter.

The air filter itself is fixated via 2 latches. To pop it out you will need to pull on these 2 latches at the same time. Once that’s done, simply slide the air filter out of the air box.

To finish the job all you’ve got to do now is to follow the same steps the way around.

Some general tips:

  • Make sure you properly install the new filter. It needs to have a tight fit against the air box.
  • Do not apply a lot of torque on any screw that screws into plastic. Yes, that it the 5 screws of the air box cover. Any screw that goes into plastic just needs to be hand tight.
  • The side body panel can be a bit fiddly to install. In case of doubts watch the video.
